The PrEP Program DYS Class

Profoundly gifted (PG) individuals exhibit exceptional cognitive abilities that significantly surpass their peers. This heightened intellectual capacity often comes with unique emotional and social challenges. PG students often face challenges in executive functioning, such as time management, organization, and planning. They need tailored support because their needs and the way to coach them are different from general executive functioning difficulties. This unique group requires specialized strategies to ensure their success.

The PrEP Program DYS Class is designed to provide the specialized instruction that profoundly gifted students need. Our curriculum is tailored to challenge their advanced cognitive abilities while fostering their executive functioning skills, including time management, organization, and planning. We create a nurturing environment where PG students can connect with peers who understand and appreciate their unique perspectives.

This group class will be led by our head coach, Dr. Shirls, who has extensive experience and is well known among the Davidson Young Scholars (DYS) community. Dr. Shirls' expertise ensures that each student receives the personalized attention and guidance necessary for their development.

6-Week Jumpstart Bootcamp

​

• Program Duration: Six-week Jumpstart Bootcamp

• Purpose: Designed to teach students intensively for the first six weeks of the school year, providing them with all the required skills to set them up for a successful year.

• Schedule: Mondays and Wednesdays at 6:30 PM Eastern Standard Time (3:30 PM Pacific Time), starting on September 9 via Zoom

• Class Length: Two days a week for 1.5 hours each session

• Suitable for Grades: Later elementary to high school students

• Cost: Originally priced at $1280 per student

• Exclusive Group: This is a DYS exclusive group. Please do not share the link or discount code outside of the PG community.

• Preparation for Classes: During the class, students will be taught executive functioning skills and will have time to apply these skills under the guidance of a coach. Please ensure your student has access to their learning environment, study materials, school binders, folders, and at-home workspace so they can actively work on applying these skills during class time.

• Class Attendance and Recording: The main instructional part of each lesson will be recorded in case a student has to miss a class. However, to fully benefit from the program, especially the coach-guided skill application portion of the class, students are strongly encouraged to attend the sessions live. Active participation ensures they gain the most from the tailored support and hands-on application of skills during class time.
